Review: 'Pighounds, The'
'Worn Out'

-  Label: 'Sweepland Records'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '16th March 2018'

Our Rating:
The Pighounds are a two-piece hailing from Dortmund, Germany, and it’s something of a side-project for Peter Bering (guitar, vocals) and Alessandro De Luca (drums), who also play in a stoner punk band called Fitches. ‘Worn Out’ is their debut single, and it’s a chunk of vintage grunge which could well have emerged from the period spanning 1991-1996. The production is direct, up front, and full, with the guitars pushed to the fore. They’ve got plenty of grit, too.

The B-sides, ‘Radio’ and ‘Good as Blind’ are presented in both album and shorter radio versions, and while I’m a bit sceptical they’re likely to get heaps of airplay, this move is reminiscent of many of the ‘grunge’ releases on Geffen and a number of other major labels. It always smacked of packing out a CD single as economically as possible. I’d take new material over versions any day.

Still, all three songs here are solid and riffy, and auger well for the album due in the summer.
