Review: 'VLMV'
'Stranded, Not Lost'

-  Label: 'Fierce Panda / Too Many Fireworks'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '16th February 2018'

Our Rating:
Mellow as… subtle, soft drones drift and sway behind rippling piano the texture of dappled sunlight on a carefree and hazy late summer afternoon. Strings swing the heartache around soul-baring singing, wistful and melancholic sensations spun in a rarefied atmosphere.

On ‘Stranded, Not Lost’, London-based duo VLMV (formerly Alma) spin sad-feeling, downtempo pop moments from amidst swirls of ambience and forge an expansive sonic space from nothing but, at times, mere wisps of notes. The melodies are mellifluous, the structures as vague and intangible as a brief pang of longing.

There’s nothing hurried about any of the songs on offer here. There are no corners, and no sharp edges. Everything is a slow wash, a drifting, cloud-like wash of translucent haze. Its draw is slow and delicate, yet undeniable. A most pleasant experience.
