Having recorded 10 solo albums, Rick Shea is no novice. He began his career playing the bars and honky-tonks of San Bernardino, California, so it comes as no surprise that his songs are dominated by folk, country, rock and Mexican influences.
Shea's latest release is described as "an album of lost roads, lost dreams and long rambling goodbyes".
In the title tune he describes his home town as ragged and old but he's resigned to its defects. This kind of gritty pragmatism pervades songs which range from gospel/twang tinged numbers to more straight ahead guitar-driven pieces like (You're Gonna Miss Me) When I'm Gone.
Trouble and strife is never far away but these worried man blues are faced with a resilience fortified by a faith in tradition
