'Ghost Of The Untraveled Road (EP)'

Our Rating:
After recording 8 albums over 14 years, Annie Keating remains open to new experiences and eager to share her wisdom in song.

Her enthusiasm for touring seems undiminished and she notes that “Travel has a way of changing time" in Kindness Of Strangers on this short but perfectly formed EP.

She explains their origin: "These songs were born in motion. In the back of a sweltering tour rig, traversing 4 countries and some 7000 miles with no mobile phone service, I had a lot of time to write and think".

The record consists of five songs that took shape out of the poems, melodies, refrains and phrases she scribbled down on napkins, set lists and her tour notebook.

Conceived with the idea of capturing feelings of intimacy and simplicity, they were recorded live in a former firehouse in Red Hook, Brooklyn on acoustic instruments and no amps.

The record features regular cohorts Steve Mayone (mandolin, nylon guitar and harmony vocals), Jason Mercer (upright bass) and Chris Tarrow (guitars and pedal steel) and she is also joined by fiddler Alex Hargreaves and Kate Steinberg on harmony vocals.

Full of fond memories and fleeting moments, the warmth and brevity of these songs leave you with the reassuring sense that there are many more where these came from.
