Our Rating:
The hype surrounding Sheffield spunksters PINK GREASE remains unyielding, though it must be said the band's work rate relies on their typically Northern grafting background and that in itself cannot be sniffed at. This last week saw them come to the end of yet another campaign around the UK'S small-to-middling venues in support of this single and debut album "This Is For Real." So in terms of sweat investment, Pink Grease earn our respect.

And certainly "The Pink G.R.Ease" makes the requisite noises. It's Glam-based, roughly akin to Gaz "Molester" Glitter arm wrestling with Jarvis Cocker and stomps around like a good 'un. It's OK, quite addictive and benefits from Stephen Lironi's spot-on production, though - that said - sounds exactly like this writer imagined it would before pressing play. Which begs the question, did he even need to listen to it? S'pose so, but for all the noise and effort, "The Pink G.R.Ease" is ultimately hollow, no matter how many trannies it blasts from nationwide.

B-side "I Need Blood" is more of the same, though considerably punkier and more guitar-based, with falsetto vocal inflections and sci-fi synths. Ooh, radical, or wot? It's robust enough and latterly there's some squawky Andy MacKay-style sax to keep up flagging interest levels, yet it's all eminently forgttable in the wider scheme. Sorry lads.   Nice make-up, though. Ever considered trying out for those L'Oreal adverts if the public decide you aren't worth it?
