Review: 'Wayne From Buckhurst Hill'
'The Way I Walk / The Worrying Kind'

-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '25th January 2019'

Our Rating:
Wayne’s bio tells us he’s ‘an original Mod,’ a ‘childhood friend of Marc Bolan’ and ‘a well known modernist [who] has been a part of the London fashion scene for over fifty years.’ The pitch for this single release is that he’s recorded ‘two of his favourite rock n roll numbers with the help of Danny & the Champions of the World, friends and regulars of the classic Victorian pub in Clerkenwell, The Betsy Trotwood.’

And yes, the two cuts on offer here are vintage rock ‘n’ roll played with real appreciation. Is there something of a night-down-the-pub covers act feel about it? Very much so, especially ‘The Way I Walk’ but that’s not really a criticism: there’s something comforting and pleasurable in hearing songs that have a familiarity of style even if the songs themselves aren’t familiar. Moreover, if anyone is going to pay homage to the music of yesteryear, surely it’s better if someone who’s lived it and has authenticity and authority.
