Review: 'MASSY FERGUSON'
'Great Divides'

-  Label: 'North & Left'
-  Genre: 'Alt/Country' -  Release Date: '7th June 2019'-  Catalogue No: 'NL001'

Our Rating:
This Seattle-based band’s fifth album illustrates that the raw-edged spirit of Uncle Tupelo is alive and kicking.

The muddy, twang-driven guitar rock of their Alt.Country sound is down to the song writing partnership of bass-playing front man Ethan Anderson and guitarist Adam Monda. They are ably assisted by band mates Dave Goedde (drums) and Fred Slater (keyboards).

There’s nothing particularly profound in these ten songs but they do have a ragged authenticity and you can’t argue with a message like Don’t Give Up On Your Friends or fail to be impressed by the bravado of the invitation to Drop An Atom Bomb On Me.

Other go to tracks are Maybe The Gods ,featuring veteran soul-singer Adra Boo, and a cool driving song with spoken word lyrics about adolescent memories with the great title Momma’s In The Backseat.

In short, this is no frills male-orientated roots rock for those who aren’t afraid to get their jeans dirty.
