Our Rating:
A blast of treble carried on a tidal wave of reverb assails the listener’s ears to herald the arrival of the third album by Parisienne purveyors of 60s retro style psyche and surf. ‘Sanitize Me’ is a raw, raucous blast of psychedelic garage rock that would be right at home on one of the ‘Pebbles’ compilations.
Most of the album finds the band exploring dreamy, soft-focus mellow territory, as on ‘Living a Lie’ and ‘You Walked Away’, which carry lovelorn lyrics which quaver in haunting washes of twangy guitar, augmented variously with piano and strings. Elsewhere, they go oddly country on ‘I Don’t Know Why’, and the string-soaked ‘Come Back to Me’ is sad and evocative.
There are still enough rowdy stompers, and while the slower, more reflective songs have greater emotional resonance, sometimes you just can’t beat a romping thrashabout.
