On the one hand, it feels like it’s been a long, slow arc since Nathassia Devine first emerged with ‘Light of the World’ in 2014. Rebooted a year or so later after some extensive plugging, she’s exploded into a complete brand, with a spectacular live show and bespoke fashion augmenting her musical output. The fact she’s media-savvy and is an absolute master of social networking is undeniable, but she works phenomenally hard, and it only works because she’s got the material.
Lifted from her second album, ‘Devine Sunrise’, ‘Star Sapphire’ encapsulates everything that defines her appeal: it’s a solid dancefloor-friendly electro workout that grooves hard, and draws on elements of a 90s club/chart dance vintage, while at the same time retaining hints of Nathassia’s cross-cultural heritage and influences. Immediate, catchy, and quality all the way.
