Review: 'Drunken Prayer'
'Crazy Alone (Quarantine)'

-  Genre: 'Alt/Country'

Our Rating:
Global lockdown is having an effect on everyone, and anyone who says they’re absolutely 100% and unaffected and coping perfectly is probably lying. Even for the most reclusive, the restrictions mean the withdrawal of potentiality. Before, for some, going out was scary. Now, it’s not even an option.

Unable to tour or do the majority of things gigging musicians do to earn a crust, many artists are using the time on lockdown to write and record and home, and stream performances from their living rooms and bedrooms. And while it’s not the same it’s about staying connected.

Drunken Prayer’s paean to confinement captures the essence of the experience perfectly: “I’m going crazy / I’m going crazy / I’m going crazy / alone” sings Morgan Geer, aka Drunken Prayer. There aren’t many other lines in this simple, lo-fi slice of Americana. And that’s why it works. As the hours drag and the days blur, the same semi-articulate thoughts circle in an endless loop as the grip on reality and routine slips ever looser. And so, in the personal, we find the universal, and Drunken prayer says it all with perfect economy.
