Our Rating:
Dana Immanuel & The Stolen Band are back with there latest four and a bit song ep. Dana is the well-known Poker journalist and band leader who has stolen all her female musicians from other bands, well I am used to seeing Basia Bartz playing violin with Trent Miller and earlier this year with Paul J Bolger and lots of others so she chose well and the rest of the band are equally great.

One of the reasons for buying a physical copy of the EP is to get Joni Belaruski's fabulous artwork for the EP that's worth putting in a frame and putting on your wall.

This Ep opens with the Banjo led title track Mama's Codeine that I'm sure would sound better on codeine but I decided not to take one to find out, but this is a country bluegrass song about someone who doesn't have easy access to legal codeine and is on the prowl to find what she needs a great tale of the search for what eases your pain and what that pain might be from, the way Dana pleads for Mama's Codeine makes me think she'll get what she needs before long, now where did I put my codeine.

Turn Up The Lights could easily have been a reply to Bernie Torme's Turn Out The Lights, but is less salacious than that and is more about not going down without a fight rather than ugly sex as Dana asks where all the darkness is coming from, this is jaunty with plenty of magical Violin from Basia Bartz who as ever sounds great.

WD40 & Duct Tape is every bit as good as the title might suggest a rather bass led slow rumble and tale of just how badly someone needed WD40 & Duct Tape to solve the problems they had, easily the best song ever about WD40 I can almost smell it while listening to this song.

We then get a fast and fly cover of Shady Grove that has some fiddle playing that sounds like it chased the devil right down to Georgia and gave him good beating as the guitars really freak out this is a great version of this classic old folk song.

The EP closes with Codeine Reprise that sounds like the last desperate pleas for what you need and haven't yet managed to get. Almost like a 42 second slightly deranged message to leave on the man's phone so to speak.
