All round entertainer Gary Van Miert from Jersey City, NJ is a local cult figure. His less than subtle band name is an homage to groups from the golden age of gospel.
The World Will Break Your Heart is Van Miert’s first album of original material (he released an album of covers in 2012). “I have my own unique interpretation of American roots music”, he claims.
Whether this 10-track musical ride is your idea of a good time depends on how far you think interpretations of classic country, gospel and blues can be bent before the genres can be considered broken.
The affection for the traditional music from the 50s and 60s is evident and the whole package probably works fine as a fun-time live entertainment experience.
On record, the novelty value quickly loses its appeal.
