Our Rating:
Kéren grew up in a multi-cultural environment influenced by both Western and Eastern music. After graduating from Berklee College of Music, she moved to the West Coast to pursue her music career. Her debut six-track EP was recorded at Dreamland Studios, a converted church in the Catskill mountains of New York.

There is talk of inspiration from Björk and Kate Bush but the sultry, laid back style is actually more reminiscent of Norah Jones. It's the kind of voice that routinely gets called "ethereal" although it should be said that she has a better vocal range than this reductive label suggests.

A title like Outer Mirrors The Inner reflects her interest in meditation practices and healing modalities. The spiritual heart of the record is inescapable and this track there are tonal elements akin to those of U2's With or Without You.

The collection of songs is best described as soulfully upbeat mostly using acoustic instrumentation although including what her PR agents exotically call "tropical flutters" to add to the diversity.

On Somewhere Else To Do , the word 'California' is sung with a loving emphasis on every syllable to show her affinity with the west coast vibe.

The highpoint is You Without Me where soft guitar and gentle piano slowly builds and intensifies to a perfectly controlled peak.

Ultimately, the warmth and serenity of the singer makes for a winning combination.
