Review: 'TELESCOPES, THE'
'Songs Of Love And Revolution'

-  Label: 'Tapete Records'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '5th February 2021'

Our Rating:
The Telescopes muddy the mix to make them seem deep.

Jo Doran's vocals are buried within bass-heavy drone-like missives with titles such as This Is Not A Dream and You're Never Alone With Despair.

The PR speaks of endless spores of sound and describe the band as being carriers of warm transmissions seeped in aural innovation. I personally would question that there's anything 'warm' here; it strikes me that the main focus is on bleak pragmatics.

The band have had more than three decades to perfect a psyched-out Krautrock-esque sound after forming in Burton-upon-Trent way back in 1986. This is the men from the Midlands' 12th album.

Admittedly, the four-piece are ploughing a familiar furrow but the unwavering vision that refuses to look on the bright side is, in its own modest way, impressive.
