Review: 'BIBBINS, PAUL'
'The Last Perfect Performance'

-  Label: 'Self Released'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '18th June 2021'

Our Rating:
When Paul Bibbins completes his daily 9-5 routine as a Network IT Engineer he returns to his room in Dallas, Texas to summon up the spirit of Jimi Hendrix.

This digital only album contains the fruit of his solitary labours with many songs dating back to the 1970s when he first began playing.

Bibbins is self-taught and plays electric guitar left-handed like Hendrix even though he is actually right-handed. There’s a cover of Voodoo Child and a version of The Star Spangled Banner but the rest of the 27 songs are originals albeit owing a great deal to his musical hero both musically and vocally.

On all of the tracks on this album, it’s just Bibbins with a drum machine handling the drum and bass guitar parts.

He concedes that none of the lyrics come from personal experiences and even though the songs are his own, this is essentially a one-man tribute band.

His playing is impressive and there are plenty of worse people to copy, but he is more marketable as a novelty live performer than a recording artist.
