This Newcastle trio’s jazzy ambience is built around tenor sax-drums-bass palette with added voice and electronics. The music originates from bandleader Faye MacCalman’s improvised piano which are then turned into synth/sax parts. She plays clarinet on Silhuoette. The rhythm section is provided by John Pope (bass) and Christian Alderson (drums).
The fact that the eight tracks have a loose, meandering quality would be fine if there other dynamics at work to give the tune some extra energy and/or focus.
As it is, the pieces drift along fairly aimlessly culminating in Burn On with some random words about lighting a fire and carrying on.
