Review: 'POSNER, ABBY'
'Kisbee Ring'

-  Label: 'Self Released'
-  Genre: 'Alt/Country' -  Release Date: '12th November 2021'

Our Rating:
Kisbee Ring is another word for a Life Preserver like the flotation device the singer is carrying on the album cover. This is a metaphor drawn from living during the pandemic that carries through the entire album. The title track is about trying to save a relationship that is unravelling and For Emergency Use Only is the title of another of the songs.

Abby Posner is a multi-talented working musician in Los Angeles who played every instrument on this record. She also mixed and produced it out of her studio.

Despite this level of independence and autonomy, the record is socially engaged and outward looking. For instance, Blind Spots was inspired by the murder of George Floyd and won the Topanga Folk Festival's Carl Gage Songwriting Award in 2020.

Posner is open about the fact that sadness, depression and frustration lie at the heart of the album but, paradoxically, she sounds calm and measured in her delivery.

This is warm-hearted Americana that is focused on not making awkward situations worse than they are. “I wanted it to feel like the listener was getting an auditory hug”, she says.
