This is the latest 10" ep from The Senior Service who have added Rachel Lowrie as singer to help flesh out the classic Medway sound they have, as with all classic Medway bands they are in thrall to the late 50's and early 60's.
This opens with the sultry pop stylings of Everyone's Stranger Than Me that sounds almost like it could have been a hit for Connie Francis in the late 50's early 60's, as Rachel Lowrie wonders why everyone is a little bit more out there than she is as the organ slowly swells and we just wallow in the normality of their lives.
If You're Not There is a cool 60's style organ led soul stirrer of a song of love and regret for a partner who may have walked out on them, they still regret them leaving.
Just A Little Time has some gorgeous trumpet and is a lovely laid-back song of yearning and hope for a little longer with the one you love; This is in the style of Helen Shapiro and has a very Henry Mancini style arrangement.
The B-side opens with Lovin' You Girl that has what sounds like a Wurlitzer organ part that the rest of the tune is built around, this is sumptuous and elegant and a wonderful instrumental cover version.
Mysterious Land sounds like it should be playing on the soundtrack to the High Chaparral or a similar western based tv show as the trumpets seem perfect to soundtrack the wide open vista as we go searching for whatever film the original tune was on the soundtrack of.
The 10" closes with Seasons Of My Mind another rather sophisticated cocktail lounge song of love and lust gone wrong, as the pains of the falling apart relationship unfurls with all the pathos of Dusty Springfield so that the only bitter regret you may have is not buying a copy of this ep.
