Our Rating:
This London based singer-songwriter’s fifth studio album was four years in the making. For reasons that are not entirely clear, the ten tracks were recorded in London, Los Angeles, Jersey and Sweden.

It is produced by American producer Stacy Parrish and Jack Casady of Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna fame. Casady also plays bass on the album.

The solid collection of ten original songs are tailored for Sutherland’s mellow voice and relaxed storytelling style.

The artist once played support and roadied for Bert Jansch and the folky origins can be heard although these compete with his obvious affection for Americana.

That said, the location of two songs are firmly placed within the UK capital. Ever Changing Skyline reflects on London's past and present, while From The Vauxhall Tavern To The Deptford Broadway is a nostalgic piece he wrote when touring America.

Guest musicians include Gunnar Frick on accordion, piano and pedal steel, Ross Garren on harmonica, Isaiah Gage on cello. Moa Drugge sings a duet on Most Of The Things That You Are.

Money Can Do is about the ups and downs of fame and Damaged addresses the delicate topic of mental health (“There’s rage in my brain, I’m in terrible pain”).

The title track was inspired by the lament of a drunk in a bar but might easily be interpreted as coming to terms with an emotional low point.

It’s all accomplished in a mellow, easy-going manner which is pleasant enough to listen to without being as heartrending or memorable as it could have been.
