6th Crowd are one of the only Ukrainian bands I've reviewed and this new single by them is raising money for the current aid effort for all those affected by the Russian invasion. You can support 6TH CROWD by downloading this single, available via Bandcamp and Apple Music, who will donate proceeds to Vostok SOS, whose humanitarian campaign includes helping people evacuate and providing humanitarian aid and psychosocial support, with hotlines for affected people and a team on the ground in the region, coordinating aid.
Dari Maksymova who is 6th Crowd is currently in exile in Ireland where she was recording her new album Step (Ukrainian for Steppe). During this terrible time for the Ukraine Dari Maksymova wants to make sure that the culture of the Ukraine is celebrated and brought to as wide an audience as possible.
The single has both a vocal and instrumental versions of Sokolonko an old Ukrainian folk song from the Donbas that has been brought into the modern age with ambient techno backing and a sense of longing for the ancestral homeland. It doesn't sound anything like the one album of folk music I was given in a trade on the old black market in Kyiv back when I visited in 1985, when I traded some Stooges and Dream Syndicate albums as well as some other things and came home with the Russian folk songs of Jeanne Bichevskaya and Yuri Antonov.

This single gently draws you in and for me brings back memories of walking along the Kreshtatick and meeting the very friendly locals and eating ice Cream with them, something I hope it is possible to do again very soon indeed.
