Our Rating:
The trio of Avant Garde jazz Muso's Oren Ambarchi, Johan Berthling and Andreas Werliin went to Stockholm's Studio Rymden to record this album of ambient inflected exploratory Jazz in Late 2018.

This album opens with I a laid back cool jazz piece with classical inclinations and some quite wondrous things happening on the bass.

Eventually the guitar flits through on spectral runs going above and below the central bass line that keeps revolving and evolving along with the gentle caress of the drums and shakers.

II opens with a guitar figure that is similar to the one at the start of The John Coltrane Stereo Blues by The Dream Syndicate, but stripped bare of the rest of the band as you sort of wait for everything else to come in and fill the picture in, in this case with sparse bass notes and hardly there drums that slowly become more central to the nuanced piece that's evolving and mutating with odd dial tone guitar runs and what sounds like a sparse four of five piece drum kit. Towards the end the guitar appears to be doing all sorts of gymnastics and weaving around the central core motif.

III slowly starts to evolve around a simple figure and then slowly mutates and metastasizes into a chilled out slightly haunting trance. With the guitar seeming to arch and bend as it vaults over the bass and drums that keep weaving in and out of my brain.

The album concludes with IV that pours the music into your ears intravenously slowly and carefully with gently shifting tonalities and the slowest drum pattern going, showing total restraint, as is the bass that comes in once in awhile as the guitar fills in the spaces and gently moves us into another sphere.
