Our Rating:
This self-titled 5 song ep is the debut release from Ecstatic International who are a 5 piece from Washington DC who are all well known on the DC scene. They are Laura Harris, G.L. Jaguar, Nikhil Rako, Jacky Cougar Abok and Anno. Between them they have played in among other bands Priests, Ex-Hex, Olivia Neutron John and Des Demonas. The Ep was produced by Don Godwin at Tonal Park.

This ep opens with High Violence that has a pulsing beat and almost spoken vocals, that are rather deadpan as the story of conflict, the search for catharsis unfolds, the music gets funkier with each repeat of the songs title High Violence, I'm not sure if it's violence carried out while high as a kite, or just with high intentions, either way this hits a groove that should get you busting shapes in no time, while trying to figure out what early 80's tune the bassline is stolen from.

Disruptor takes another super funky bassline and does all sorts of No wave meets underground funk things, while they sing about the need for more disruption of the current status quo, while everyone dances along with total abandon.

Corridor feels a little bit sparser as the almost tinny keyboards go off around another killer bassline, in places feeling a little bit cartoonish, as they look back at how they were, what they used to do before everything stopped during the pandemic. This has a very Dub Sex meets Vee VV instrumental outro.

Monsters has the deadpan vocals talking about some modern monsters against more punky funk with some very intuitive drumming and female vocals that are a little bit Will Powers.

The ep closes with Premium Vision that has a funky No Wave meets early 80's synth pop feel as they try to figure out what kind of Premium Vision they want to pay for, while in places reminding me of early China Crisis.
