Review: 'Powerplant'
'Grass Ep'

-  Label: 'Static Shock Records/Bandcamp'
-  Genre: 'Punk/New Wave' -  Release Date: '14.7.23.'

Our Rating:
Powerplant was originally a bedroom project for Ukrainian emigre Theo Zhykharyev, that over recent year has evolved into a full band alongside Karim Newbie, Cajm and Lloyd Clipston together they make oddball synth punk. Grass is the bands new ep mainly recorded bedroom stylee with some studio postproduction.

The ep opens with Grass an urgent sounding indie synth punk tune that uses similar dynamics to Moustache Of Insanity, but with less humor, as things devolve they want to know why you are such a lock-in even after the pandemic has ended, as they beg you to come and walk on the Grass with them as it gets more frantic towards the end.

Broodmother has a slow bass and synth intro and a rhythm, that sounds like it's mimicking a military parade slowly moving down the Kreshtatick towards the Hero of the Ukraine, hopefully evoking memories of how Kiev and the Ukraine was before the latest destructive war.

Walk Around-Hang My Head is nice and odd more than slightly askew indie rock for trying to figure out you place in the madness we call the 2020's, is the shame about not being able to make the world a saner more peaceful place.

3 medallions is a short interlude piece, before Beautiful Boy comes on like a kiddie core, watch with mother on acid, punk rave up of despair for the latest awful Ukrainian war, being fought on all the ancient battlegrounds that are once again being soaked in blood, as he hears the devils voice within him this is disturbing and enticing in equal measure.
