Review: 'Gates Of Light'
'Gates Of Light II (Glashow Edition)'

-  Label: 'Last Night From Glasgow/Deezer'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '18.8.23.'

Our Rating:
Gates Of Light II (Glasgow Edition) is confusingly the first of three eps that will form Gates Of Lights new album. The band started as an international Pandemic collaborative project between Louise Quinn and Finley MacDonald and friends.

The ep opens with Quiet Little Miracle a cute, gently ululating pop song imbued with regrets and thoughts for what happened in the past, as Louise wonders at the miracle of he close friends pregnancy, this is full of love with gently harmonious backing singers.

I Keep Reaching For the Sun has a laid back indietronica feel, as hopes of bright sunshine, among all the pain, hoping to overcome the desolation and trauma.

Better Now opens with gently insistent keyboards with an almost siren like effect, as Louise's vocals try to find ways to be optimistic among the ruins of life gone wrong, in the pandemic as the fog appears to be clearing. Swirls of synths aiming for a new utopia.

Need You Now is a little bit of gentle pleading for more than another text message, as moog like synths accentuate just how much you want that close contact.

Embrace The Night is the sound of midnight walks in the woods, rather than dancefloor action in a sleazy club, this is very relaxed despite the meltdown she's having.

The EP closes with And When You Come Home a title that begs a good few questions, are you in hospital, or on remand, or are you serving a prison sentence, just why won't they let you come home, among the slowly evolving synthpop you may find the answers, or you may just wonder how she fell in love with you in the first place.
