Heavy rock gods King Kobra are back with the bands Sixth album since forming in 1983, the band have gone through a few line-up changes over the years, the current line-up is Carmen Appice, Paul Shortino, Carlos Cavaso, Rowan Robertson and Johnny Rod who between them have played in bands including Dio, Ozzy Osbourne, Quiet Riot, Vanilla Fudge, Blue Murder etc.
The aIbum opens with Music Is A Piece of Art a burnished bruised heavily melodic rock song for the elevation of Music as Artistry, while they list all the ways Music has saved them, from penury to dissolution always praise the power of music to save you far more easily than any religious zealot might claim they can.
Turn Up The Music is a great drivetime rocker as the vocals implore you to Turn Up The Music, go on play it loud, this sounds like it should have a properly cheesy rock video to go with it, as they cruise down Sunset and Vine.
Secrets & Lies is a good piece of driving hard rock action, as all the deceit of the lovers is made clear as they cheat on each other.
Drownin' in lust, love and desire, this has the feel of a Whitesnake lust rocker, you need to have on skintight trousers for this one.
One More Night lives up, or is it down to the title, this is the sort of heavy rock tune that almost writes itself, everything is in place, pleading vocals, great fearsome drumming, a solid riff, all that's missing is a super catchy chorus.
Love Hurts takes this much covered classic as the hoarse throaty vocals from Paul Shortino, who teeters on the brink of going totally over the top throughout, but keeps it just about spot on, so turn on your mobile phone torch, wave it in the air to this version of Love Hurts, while wondering if Paul is as sexy as Emmylou Harris or Norah Jones, well he gives Dan Cafferty a run for his money.
Dance has a doomy riff, crisp cymbals on this reasonably un-danceable song called Dance, as they hope to keep moving on, through all of life’s tribulations.
Darkness thankfully has no Justin style screamo vocals, just the usual full-throated ones, celebrating the dark side of existence as those twin guitars mesh and Carmine's super steady beat drives it along.
The title track We Are Warriors makes clear that the only battle they want to take part in, is the battle of the Sexes, as they try to find another lucky catch, for yet another brief encounter late at night, as they are always ready for action, I guess these days they all have massive Cialis habits, beware these bad hombres are out on the strut once more.
Drive Like Lightning is something that can't be done in the UK anymore, certainly not in london as you need to be able to drive at way above our pussy 20mph limits, so find a good bit of motorway, or highway with no speed cameras and let rip and this will be a perfect piece of highspeed tarmac cruising rock, with the widdliest guitar solo on the album. This song is only for listeners who still drive petrol engine vehicles as this won't work in an EV.
The first of the two bonus tracks on the CD is Trouble a song for the sort of woman who knocks at your door at 4 in the morning, you can guess what trouble comes after that.
The album closes with Side By Side that doesn't reference Sondheim as it delivers just one more windswept hard rock love epic as they hope to win over one more lucky lady.
