If,like me, the ubiquitous loop of ‘happy’ festive tunes played in supermarkets makes you want to punch the nearest shop assistant then you’ll probably be tempted to give this album a wide berth.
Fortunately, Alabama-born “Mean” Mary James does her level best not to pile on the misery for her ‘fun’ Christmas selection of old and new tunes.
Actually, of the twelve offerings, only three are new; the rest are banjo-driven reworks of originals including songs you know and hate like Jingle Bells. Deck The Halls and God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.
The contribution of Mary’s more pessimistic brother Frank tempers her relentless optimism to ensure that those of us with a more Scrooge-like disposition are catered for.

Needless to say, merry wins the day. 'Tis the season to be jolly after all.
Alledgedly!
