Review: 'WOLFE, AFTON'
'The Harvest'

-  Label: 'Grandiflora Records'
-  Genre: 'Blues' -  Release Date: '17th November 2023.'

Our Rating:
Every year Afton Wolfe appears as a featured guest at an East Nashville Tom Wait’s tribute concert. In actual fact, he operates as a kind of tribute act all year round.

Wolfe’s voice and phrasing are practically identical to that of his musical hero. By sounding so similar it’s hard to judge the quality of his music on its own merits.

This latest record is a seven- track record is a collaboration with producer Doc Sarlo on a set of songs co-written with Wolfe’s father-in-law L.H. Halliburton.

The songs are so deeply immersed in the blues that he all but sinks under the weight of his own sins. “I confess my transgressions” he growls in Lost Prayers and howls moodily in Hello, Mr Wolf. Only Harvest has any real levity thanks to a joyful sounding flute accompaniment.
