Review: 'BARDO POND'
'Volume 9'

-  Label: 'Fire Records'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '23rd February 2024'

Our Rating:
Bardo Pond are for me the ultimate stoner band. Their records are replete with references to illegal substances and their sound is proof that, contrary to health warnings, sometimes the drugs do actually work.

The title of this release immediately made me wonder why I hadn’t heard all the eight previous volumes. I console myself with the though that the band’s output over the years is so extensive that I doubt there are many that can claim they have heard everything they’ve recorded.

Volume 9 was recorded sometime in the early 2000’s in The Lemur House, Philadelphia and is well summarised as a heady mix of acoustic ambience and menacing distortion.

This description would fit any of their releases that may be likened to Pink Floyd at their psychedelic peak or Hawkwind at their most immersive albeit minus the vocals.

The album is split into two parts which were worked on during one evening. Part one comprises three tracks while the second part is the 21 minute War Is Over Part 2

Part drone, part drift, part noise, this is a sound that has been honed to perfection over the years making any entry point to their discography valid. If your starting point is here, I guarantee you’ll be moved to work backwards.
