Review: 'Kilbey Kennedy'
'Premonition K'

-  Label: 'Easy Action Records'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '28.6.24.'-  Catalogue No: 'EARS201'

Our Rating:
Premonition K is the final part of the Kilbey Kennedy trilogy that began with Jupiter 13 in 2021, continuing through The Strange Life of Persephone Nimbus in 2022 to arrive at Premonition K in 2024 as Steve Kilbey and Martin Kennedy come together once more.

The album opens with a neoclassical prognostication Breaking The Fourth Wall full of paranoid thoughts, whispered through the calm music, no matter what happens he is always alone in a crowd, is salvation his or not, can the guitars soar any higher.

NDE is a dark brooding reflection on one too many Near Death Experience as you fight to stay on this side of the line between life and death Wagnerian thoughts of decay, bitter regrets for adventures not taken.

The Doctor is coming to help you in a slow meandering examination, kitchen sink drama samples of ulterior destinations.

Nowhere cannot be reached by road, the reality has changed, betwixt purgatory, strange accoutrements within soundtrack at the core of the labyrinth.

My Better Half is a deeply weird duet with Leona Gray as Steve Jumps the shark, plays pac-man, while Leone can see and feel things he can't, he simply can't satisfy her, she is caught in a perpetual game of snakes and ladders, always ending up falling down the ladder that goes back to the start.

That's Gotta Hurt your back living with your parents, it's all fallen apart, no one wants to know you anymore, your star has imploded much like the intense mid-paced prog guitar warbling through this tune.

Whispered Voices On Tape hope to set you free from the slow repeating bass figure, the cackling voice from some long forgotten horror film.

The King is their reverential love treaty for King Charles, all his wheels and cogs, only god knows why we still have a king in 2024, the intriguing poetry of Steve's vocals steal from nursery rhymes the rascal.

The Contender is up for the fight, he could have been a winner but well you know life got in the way, he had to go and play another 300 shows with The Church, his dreams of rope a dope glory went astray.

The Ouija Board is suitably horror film dark, they spend time in Auntie Doris' room playing with her Ouija Board, before she came back to haunt them, eerily as this tune may haunt your dreams after dark.

Menace In The Past if only it was so and there was Menace no more, dark layers of sound, guitars wailing, chimes from within hades, give back your life.

The album closes with The Song That Wrote Itself as if they stuck a few phrases into Chat GP and this is what it came up with, non sequiturs jump at us like industrial air conditioners, caring un-preparing, recording birdsong, do they make a breakthrough with this experiment, or is it another epic prog tune to close the album with.
