Review: 'ENEMY WITHIN, THE'
'God Save the Queen'

-  Label: 'LENNY'S RECORD SHOP'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'NEW RELEASE JUNE 2002'

Our Rating:
As someone who only ever really saw the SEX PISTOLS as an interesting marketing strategy combined with the best piece of theatre in the music industry ever courtesy of John Lydon, this reviewer feels they were never really a great musical force, more the touchpaper for a movement, latched onto by the press and millions of dodgy bands with only 3 chords the world over.

I await Lydon's descent into graceless old age and parts in panto in Bridlington playing Baron Hardup or King Rat with eager anticipation. For THE ENEMY WITHIN to then sample what is surely the Pistols most stupid and pathetic moment in The Bill Grundy Affair(even more than the Ronnie Biggs incident) and mix it with what was surely their greatest piece of blatant self publicity - releasing an anti-royal record in the Silver Jubilee year - seems to be missing the point to put it mildly.

The Grundy affair, frankly, was as pathetic a piece of juvenile behaviour on all parts as ever seen on television. All participants should have known better and the whole affair was about as clever as a room full of Labour spin doctors. As I've said before on the site, swearing isn't big and clever and to basically loop bits of it over snippets of "God Save The Queen", especially this year, just reeks of cash in.
Sure, the SEX PISTOLS are doing it, but cash in is their earned right by now isn't it?At least CHUMBAWAMBA have done the whole thing with more style, grace and
(more importantly) humour with "Her Majesty."
To summarise, not big, not clever. (4/10)
