Our Rating:
Chris Corsano's album's title The Key (Became The Important Thing {Then Faded Away}) is as far as I'm aware the first album I have seen use the double bracket, as if to signify how much this solo album will stand out, as Chris does everything himself including making some of the drums, playing all the drums, guitars, bass and other instruments, Designing the artwork and mixing the record.

Chris Corsano has been an alternative drumming legend for over a quarter of a century playing on over 150 albums from Bill Nace to Evan Parker and all sorts in between.

The album opens with fuzzy drum mantra of I Don't Have Missions that quickly jump cuts into Incredible String Band territory, strained through psychedelic psychosis guitar, over a never-ending bassline.

No wave manipulations stressed distressed, dovetailing into the pulse cymbalism.

Collapsed In Four Parts drills into the cortex, buzz saws tinnitus mania scorch ears, squalled guitar savagery collapsing into a miasma of drums. Distortions caterwauling striations scraping at mental wounds.

Low Experience of minimalistic gamelan vibes, Chinese cymbals marking time, we go as low as we can. Unlike An Empty Box this tune is full of notes percussively striking all around the place, it's in your belly slapping your face, never less than Kraut, always more than fluid.

The Full-Measure Wash Down will leave you smelling of fresh guitar welts, linseed oil and deep heat, pulsations shower over you, while the cymbals scrub away. Shake that dripping note right out your hair.

The album closes with Everything I Tried To Understand Wasn't Understandable At All like how wasn't Mani Neumeier involved in this record, how all this percussion doesn't feel like one long drum solo, how you can make huge gains with no gain at all, how it feels like Chris is shaking out the ghosts, yet no ghosts are present at all.
