Our Rating:
Songs From Home is the debut EP by Canadian country folk trio Wild Remedy who are based in Montreal and Ottawa. This trio formed four years ago and have spent that time honing their sound and playing enough gigs to build a following for the harmonious music that Amy Russett, Colleen Roberston and Shaylah Mahoney are creating. The Ep was recorded in Ottawa by producer Nate Hardy who provides additional instrumentation.

The Ep opens with What I Did Find a foot stomping country folk song, full of lush harmony vocals, punctuated with field hollers, they explore what they have learnt by flying the coop, they try to find out what kind of people they really want to be, who they really want to spend time with, they have decided it was worth a bit of suffering if it helps you to achieve the life you want to live.

Home Song has them having itchy feet, as they have roamed across the globe only to find that Home is always with them to some degree, the call and response between lead and backing vocals adds a collegiate feeling, being woven between the acoustic guitars and sweet harmonies welcoming you back home once more.

Take The Punches claims that they can keep the devil at bay for you, if only you spend time with them, so kick back with them and everything well turn out ok, wallow in the subtleties of the strings soothing what ails you.

The bands theme tune Wild Remedy is a more subtle folk strum for someone who is looking at how heartbreak is affecting their dreams, while the world collapses around them, they seek out a Wild Remedy to help heal themselves and those around them while reminding me of Eleanor McEvoy.

The Ep closes with Little Me a reflective dip back towards there childhood selves, fearing what might have been going on at home, sung as if sitting by the campfire strumming that acoustic guitar while the harmonies flow connecting everything together.
