Review: 'MISS KITTIN'
'REQUIEM FOR A HIT'

-  Label: 'NOVAMUTE'
-  Genre: 'Dance' -  Release Date: '27th September 2004'-  Catalogue No: 'CDNOMU 138'

Our Rating:
Caroline Herve (aka MISS KITTIN) is one of the hippest names to drop on any self-respecting dancefloor at present. With a track record that inlcudes collaborations with Felix da Housecat, Sven Vath, T.Raumschiere and - most famously - The Hacker (remember "Frank Sinatra"?), she finally found time to release her debut album "I Com" during the summer and ended up riding the international waves of acclaim back to the beach as a result.

For all that, your reviewer wasn't that impressed with Miss K's previous single "Professional Distortion." But this time round even this begrudger must succumb. Coming (pardon me) with a slew of seamless remixes, "Requiem For A Hit" is clever, booty-bass riddled and hornier than hell to boot.

"Excuse me, but would you mind to...pump?" implores her sassiness. Sure, reckons guest L.A Williams: "Show me your tits...and let's make a hit,"he replies before revelling in the kiss-off line: "I'll beat that bitch with a hit." So yeah, it's about as PC as a Nuremberg rally and makes Peaches sound like an episode of 'Jackanory' into the bargain, but lighten up: "Requiem For A Hit" is the most infectious dancefloor call to arms your reviewer's heard from this genre for many a long while. AND you can enjoy it at home, with or without mind-bending stimulants. Top.

The remixes are smoother than silk, an' all. GLOVE'S take is subtle and a tad more radio friendly still, bringing the soulful samples further to the fore and hepping up the catchiness. It segues so beautifully into to "Requiem For A Buzz" mix, you barely spot the join. If that wasn't enough for ya, you also get to revel in the hypnotic, acid-fried motorik drive of the "Abe Duque" remix, which is old-skool in the best, ripped-off-yer-tits way imaginable.

Bit of a result, then. This writer's not accustomed to raving about dance music per se, but he's willing to make an exception in Miss Kittin's case. Come up and see her: she'll make you smile in more ways than your tiny mind can accommodate.
