Our Rating:
Breadcrumbs is the debut solo album by Rachel Ewen the Seattle based singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Most of the material on this mini album was written acapella, vocals first with the music added afterwards in collaboration with producer Jesse Miller.

The album opens with Go In Circles a gentle soul pop song for someone caught in a ever repeating cycle, hoping to break free and find a different path the supple backing, laid back beats, sweet keyboards and brushed cymbals allow Rachel to float above the gentlest of keyboard parts.

The guitars come crashing in at the start of Time Back giving this a more riff based indie pop cadence, she pleads for her time back, the time she wasted trying to have a decent fruitful relationship with you, it has all gone very wrong, bitter recriminations are the order of the day.

Another Way opens acapella hoping to find a new way, voices mount, harmonies take her in the direction of Woodpecker Walliams and similar waiflike voices, she tries to rebuild her life anew.

Basement is piano led soul barer, hoping to find the strength to carry on rebuilding your life, seeking new adventures, for now she is in love with the basement she's just moved into, eventually the sadness of her dad's passing will ease.

Unsaid is wistful feeling, laid back percussive backing, a gentle piano line or three, you try to come to terms that you never said everything you wanted, your dad to hear, before he departed, the love is implicit but the feeling that you missed sharing something special is never far away.

Like A Mirror vocals float over carefully picked guitar, memories like flashbacks to when you were still around, carry on that eternal conversation, never stop telling dad what you've been up to, the redolent feelings come through the wistful music, this is very calming folk music.
