Review: 'Guthrie, Robin'
'Atlas'

-  Label: 'Soleil Apres Minuit'
-  Genre: 'Ambient' -  Release Date: '22.7.24.'-  Catalogue No: 'SM2401'

Our Rating:
Atlas is the latest E.P. of ambient music from Cocteau Twins legend Robin Guthrie, who has now been creating musical magic for almost 45 years. The E.P. was recorded by Robin in his home studio in Brittany.

The E.P. opens with Atlas with a long string drone, delicate piano, perfect for gazing at old Atlases too, while wondering when Abyssinia and Bohemia disappeared, this is elegiac and rather majestically laid-back ambient music.

Metropol weaves a picture that is half Metropol music venue, a quarter Metropol Hotel and a quarter Metropol Ceramic design, a cool stripped back tone poem.

Without A Word Robin Guthrie magics up musical tales, traversing the world, creating musical collages deeply layered, slightly mind altering, the sense of calm, a beatific mood encouraged.

The E.P. closes with La Perigrina has nods back towards Pearldiving, being named after one of the most famous Pearls of all, musically this has few if any Spanish cadences, but instead carefully nuanced brushed percussion, strings and keyboards making an intoxicating slightly heavier ambience.
