Review: 'Delrei'
'Desolation And Radiation'

-  Label: 'Projekt'
-  Genre: 'Soundtrack' -  Release Date: '7.7.23.'

Our Rating:
Desolation & Radiation is the latest album by Italian Spaghetti Western soundtrack instrumental band Delrei who are influenced by Giallo as well as classic spaghetti western soundtracks. Delrei are Alessandro Mercanzin's project that was produced, engineered and mixed by Maurizio Baggio from La Distilleria Produzioni Musicali. With guests Stefano Miozzo and Michele Tedesco.

The album opens with Solitario a slow dark western rumble with Link Wray stranded in the desert feel. Into The Wasteland wanders into view with acoustic guitar being fingered while the widescreen electric conjures images, of a lonesome figure wandering through a vast expanse of nothingness towards a remote alpside village, that is more ghost town than living entity, deep bass drum marches towards inevitable calamity.

Nowhere To Ride is classic Spaghetti Western mood music with a fusilli twist or two along the way, the bad man of the alps tries to figure out where to go next, he isn't welcome here anymore.
Ensenada is off in the distance, a town full of hope and despair, portents of dark disease in the deep timpani, hope through the wavering reverb laden guitar.

Far From Here in a town with no name sits a former preacher exploring his guitar like a latter-day Hank Marvin, sainthood the last thing on his mind in this windswept landscape.

Get Lost Blues is meandering through the forest trying to find its way out of this slow Howling Wolf style blues riff, thumping bass that's darker than Blues Against Youth while having some of Nero Kanes gothic edge.

Lonely Night stranded in an abandoned village, in a collapsing shack with a bottle of Grappa and some Ubriaco for company, the harmonica wails as thunderclaps strain against fluid guitar, hinting at Delrei's need for isolation.

Dusk has arrived without so much as a stray bottle of Trebbiano D'Abruzzo to be seen, the deep yearning in the martial beat set against the fear inducing guitars, something dreadful is about to happen.

Country is a jaunty ride on your trusty stead though the fields and meadows, finally things seem to be more hopeful, perhaps you can finally get back to the ones you love at the end of this trail.

Mysterious Traveller has arrived out of the mist in the centre of your village, is he a bad man or is he just in need of some Strozzapreti, the guitars get darker and harsher it's clear he is here for all the wrong reasons.

The album closes with Daydream that is a pleasant one, hoping for an idyllic day in the hills, fine weather good food and wine, finally decent company, that wants to have a good time with you, slowly dancing towards each other ready for one last embrace.
