Greaser Phase is the self-titled debut album by the New York band that Jonny Couch and Benny Imbriani have put together with help from Kevin Shea and John Epperly who unevenly share the drum duties. The album was recorded at House Of Grease in Kingston NY with additional drums at Metropolitan Sound Brooklyn.
The A-side opens with Lonely Hearts Killer that sounds like the title of an episode of CSI.SVU, two star crossed hopefuls plan out each other's lives, before deciding that rather than going on any more desperate dates they would rather kill the hopefuls over the jangle pop.
Back To California is a cooking blues rocker, full of begging and pleading for you to open your arms, allowing him in again, yep he's back in town again.
Believe It cool as can be indie rock with a country twist is back in style again, this tune is at the forefront. I miss that Rock And Roll has a sweeter power pop edge, they hark back to the good old days, when they still played in Rock & Roll bands all over the place.
Love Is Guaranteed is the opening line they use to chat up that babe they are swooning over, this has a classic pop rock feel, they sound like the passions they have are more innocent than they are, so go on fall in love with them and find out.
The B-side opens with Knockin On Your Window hoping not to get arrested for stalking, with all those bedroom yelps at the start of the song, whatever you do take them seriously, even if you see them dancing with another babe they are yours completely. The tune has elements of T-Rex with the glam stripped out, but it still has plenty of Boogie going on.
The Belle Of Clarksville, Mississippi is nothing like the sadly departed and greatly missed Belle of Camden Town, she may well have as much make up and some of the sass, that has bewitched them, like they have just stepped out of a T-Bone Burnette song, they beg and plead for her to go and kiss them before they skip town.
Nervous Minds has gently pulsing guitars for a heartfelt plea for another chance to save this relationship, yearning harmony vocals guitar rising, trying to help seal the deal once more.
False Paradise goes all falsetto Alessi Brothers, they beg and plead with Charlene that they really should still be with her, the guitars make sweet sweet love to her.
The album closes with a song for Roger, Over And Out the final messy denouement of another relationshipwreck its done and dusted, all over bar the crying, they try to find a glimmer or two of hope in a jangling riff, to accompany the final words she said to you Over And Out.
