Review: 'Abusements'
'Grievance Beerwater Reprisal'

-  Label: 'American Leather Records'
-  Genre: 'Punk/New Wave' -  Release Date: '10.9.24.'-  Catalogue No: 'AL-0035'

Our Rating:
Grievance Beerwater Reprisal is very likely the album title of the year and the third album by Montgomery Alabama based Abusements. The album title refers to the trouble the band has had since 2022 that included smear campaigns against them and has meant they would rather play live on the road anywhere but in Alabama, so they are definitely not Alabama bound. Abusements are DJ Fake Name, Lyra Lyricat, Dominique Bradley Snr Wil Evans, Jay Henshley with special guest Terrell Wright

The album opens with Banned in this case not in DC, but in Montgomery even if they can't totally figure out why, over the badass dank blues rock, growled scandal ridden vocals from DJ Fake Name, rallying against squirrelly guitars.

Heaven is where they hope to go, they are seeking the lean mean, gritty rock Shangri-la even if they can't find the leader of the pack whatever they do.

Adderal is a punk blues, pill popping, drinking song, for the joys of an Alcohol and Adderall rampage.

Mind is a soul stirrer with Terrell's Hammond driving them deep into your Mind, they go all wine bar louche insinuations at all the things you did while out of your mind.

Alabamstan is an anthem for the madness of that sweet place they call home and the less enlightened folks who surround them, just whatever you do get out there way and this juggernaut of an anthem as gang sing the chorus.

The B side opens with Evel all bout Evel Knievel and Co-written with Rhoades D'Ablo this is a cool tribute to the legendary trick cyclists craft, its been far too long since I've heard any new music involving Rhoads happy he's involved.

Howard is all about the madness of Mr Hughes and the maniacal compulsions the drugs drove him into solitude, with blitzed guitars, straining guttural bass frying his brains.

G my good man, shake your tambourine and let them tell you about the 9 lives of G Gordon Liddy in a more succinct way than John Cale did. Younger listeners may need to investigate just what an infamous man he was, while wrapped up in cahoots with tricky Dicky.

Unwind takes aim at all the fake money-grubbing preachers, teaching corruption and hatred, that need sleazy battered blues guitar to salve their souls.

The album closes with Buzzkill ranting an raving against the madness of evil breeds, social hygiene, fear and hate rampage across the speakers, threatening another Jonestown, go on pretend to be a human being and let the guitars rage on and get down with the Grievance Beerwater Reprisal as brought to you by Abusements.
