Review: 'Tombstones In Their Eyes'
'Asylum Harbour'

-  Label: 'Kitten Robot Records'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '19.11.24.'

Our Rating:
Asylum Harbour is the latest album by Los Angeles based band Tombstones In Their Eyes the album is produced and engineered by the legendary Paul Roessler who I first saw playing live at The Rat in Boston back in 1986 when he was in 45 Grave. The bands own John Treanor also co-produced the album at Kitten Robot Studios. The rest of the band are Paul Boutin, Phil Cobb, Steven Striegel, Nic Nifoussi, Courtney Davies, David Murphy.

The album opens with In Your Eyes a deeply stoned hazy drone rock epic for everything you can see in your eyes, from just how stoned you are, to a sense of Longing and hope for a return to the stoner rock heydays of the 90's.

Sweet As Pie is for someone who is only ever really sweet when they get their own way, a total nightmare otherwise, the hazy never-ending riff intoxicates, allowing the backing vocals to rise out of the musical miasma harmoniously.

Mirror has a great loose stringed bass riff that's fuzzy as can be, dark hued drums allowing the vocals to slowly emerge from the fog, you gaze in that mirror once more, do you like what you see or not.

I Like To Feel Good the single is a great slab of droning drug rock for feeling properly out there and good. The guitars grind like Telescopes with loads of reverb and super heavy bass, the mantra of the title repeats over and over with the odd short verse thrown in.

I'm Not Like That is lighter laid back summer vibes, for someone trying to make sure they are not tarred with the wrong brush again. Hopefully they will be believed and not ghosted.

Gimme Some Pain is slow dark hearted plea for a bit more pain, so you can really feel something at last, nothing else is working, they want to feel alive again.

By My Side is where they want you to be, so they can feel alright again, this is full of longing for a partner whose no longer with them, this slowly builds among the fuzzy melodies, hoping you'll give them the relief they seek.

The Sky Is Blue and they aren't certain they want to come back down to earth, preferring to stay as high as they can, droning riff of destiny keeping them sane and in love with you.

Set Me Free why don't you babe, he'll even let you keep all the Vanilla Fudge records, you still claim they do the best version of You Keep Me Hanging On, he argues it was Lou Reeds live versions that are the best, this isn't about that monument, they aren't hanging on, but they want to be gone.

The album closes with I Am Cold which with storms raging outside is quite probable, they whip up a musical storm for you to find a way out of, they claim to have no soul or hope left by the events of recent times. That riff driving them towards some warmth, in the near future seems like it might just help save them from the frozen wasteland they are stuck in.
