This is the Dirty Strangers first ever Xmas Single, recorded at Alan Clayton's West One Two Studios, the line-up for the single is Alan Clayton, John Proctor Lol Fox, John Rollason and special guest Charlie Hart from Slim Chance. With Marnie Rollason on backing vocals on the A-side only.
Turkey Bones is a slightly downbeat look at what it's like to go without at Christmas, stuck at home alone in a room in a halfway house, trying not to get too maudlin, while looking at videos on your mobile phone, the down home country twanging is a touch out of character, but works a treat on this nicely dark Christmas tune that should soon become a classic.
The B-side is Pirates Don't Get Pensions (Cowboy Mix) that takes the song from Hunters Moon and countryfies it, Alan makes clear how he's happy about the life choices he made, but they come at a price, he doesn't have a pension, but at least he can get Charlie Hart from Slim Chance to play on this version, giving it a nice Neckerchief rock feel.
