Days is the debut album by Liverpudlian duo The Wood who are Alex Evans and Steve Powell who recorded the album at Ark Recording Studios with assistance from Jake Howden-Woodward, Jay Irving, Roy Corkill, Martin Smith, Simon James, Amy Chalmers, Matt Phillips, Andy Jacobson, Mike Smith, Phil Melville, Charlie and Clair Griffiths.
The album opens with the funky insistence of Let It Loose its time to shake your goose, over a laid back groove the brass section drives things on.
River is a slow gospel builder, getting bigger and more pleading, it grows and falls, hope remains among the darkness closing in. Guitars weeping sorrowfully searching for a way out of all the pain.
Temptations come to that military snare pattern, how to resist and survive through the wee hours once more, all the temptations a lost soul is offered.
Autumn Dreams are barely a murmur, evocative ministrations soulful invocations.
Back To The Start has ambient noises leading into intense funky guitar and vocals pouring out all the reasons you need to go Back To The Start once more.
Stay With Me isn't a cover, but is a soul-searching plea for loves redemption, slow acoustic cry of sorrow.
The single Thornside Walk very slowly revels in the despair of what happened to make you flea that dark black hole. Can you find peace or safety.
The album closes with Days whose ghostly acoustic gospel intro, sets the scene for one last reflection of the days we live through.
