The Attendant is a new project featuring Ian Button, Pete Astor and Andy Lewis who between them have been in The Loft, Swansea Sound, Weather Prophets, Go Kart Mozart, Ellis Island Sound, Death In Vegas, Spearmint, Papernut Cambridge etc etc. The project began in lockdown and they should have a full album out later this year.
The ep opens with How To Be Here that has an 80's funk bassline for Pete to slowly emote about why you Had To Be Here, the glossy sheen reminding you of lost nights that can never return.
No Gold Watch is given after 43 years' service, was it worth it, all that work in your shed, gauzy synths, pulsing anew, guitars shimmer with the memories of all that service for so little reward or thanks.
Eden Rock has Pete Astor intoning this tale of distress, meeting his family at Eden Rock his mum making tea from a thermos, a pathetic picnic make this scene all the sadder, his dad throws skipping stones, basic synths pulse, a tale unfolds.

Machine For Living differs from Iggy's one, this is less a dog delivered in the middle of the night, but one that appears like new trees, with flowers tied to then annually, the krautrock feel praising the memory of Jose and John and the plants they looked after.
Friday Night Film Club downbeat keys, atmospherics allow for sad 70's tale of waiting for the phone to ring, claustrophobia rising, bringing up 50-year-old memories, you sift through a box of sad remnants of youth gone grey, ambient sheen can't compensate for those lost special features Ian Button still creates.
