The Legend is the latest EP from hotly tipped trio Aiming who are from the synthwave heartlands of York and signed to Berlin's Blackjack Illuminist Records. Aiming are Dave Laurie and Jordan who recorded at Crooked room with producer Chris Mulligan.
The Ep opens with Brainiac a shoegaze industrial, synth pop tune that gently explains, just what a Brainiac the musclebound frenemy, who always wants a dust up is, where in the 80's did they steal that bassline from, they walk along trying to avoid those glances that lead to glasses flying.
The Legend has an unsettling Creeping Bent ambience to this ruckus waiting to happen, about to go on a mindless rampage, they aren't on about The Legend that used to be in the NME all the time, this one is far more damaged than Everitt True ever was, this spirals gently like everything is happening in slow motion.
At Sea has a far more Lancastrian sound, with the sound of gothy synths with quite a glossy edge rising and falling with the swell, like they have crossed the dreaded border from Yorkshire, they are being overrun and taken over once again, how did we ever think you were sane.
Docile is reflective pulsed synths and more stripped back percussion wondering how much longer you will remain Docile for, in the face of everything that's been happening on this particular night.
