This is billed as a solo record but every track except Wolves has a guest singer and Delmhorst’s mellifluous voice is backed by Ray Rizzo on drums, Jeremy Moses Curtis on bass, and Erik Koskinen on guitars.
The album was recorded in a studio built into an 18th-century Maine farmhouse
The melodies have a laid-back new country vibe with hints of wistfulness. Injections of energy are lacking. Only the blasts of guitar on the more up tempo Won’t Be Long and Dematerialize stray from the mellow mood.
The garden ghosts that haunt the eleven tunes may be lost loves, missed chances, past mistakes, invisible sorrows, unseen threads and possible futures. Take your pick.
It’s all easy on the ear but is not designed to get the pulse racing.
