For Translucence is the debut album for this duo who have made an album of meditative ambient soundscapes for violin and cello, With added syths and other musical toys. The numbers in the titles of the pieces is indicative of the frequencies they are playing at, even if I may interpret them as the years the music evokes. They are both part of the Experimental music scene in Chicago
The album opens with the ambient drones and scraped strings of 65|66 with low humming noises, like helicopters in the distance slowing covering distance, evoking disastrous Vietnamese raids, supple subtle stings relaxing and subtly emotional.
48|50 has pulsing oscillations clustered together in long tonal shifts like radar or sonar emanations, operatic samples, tenor tonalities, ghost like fragmentations.
73|74 the helicopter drones are having a tough time of it, no one is happy about what they did in Vietnam in those terrible years, singing bowl like drones crying out for the torture and napalm to stop, wash yourself in the cleansing meditative pulses once more.
Swooping cello and viola dogfighting in the skies with a supple grace, elliptical flower water gently trickles by.
The album closes with 54|56 the birthplace of space age rock & roll, shifting sands of traced Theremin, sine waves sweeping slowly across the vista of buzzed vibrations, elliptical emanations drone across the sky, mutating murmuration's sweeping down. Modulations of messages sent across space, dreaming of Russian space dogs, panting heavy breathing sonar messages sent back to earth.
