Nikki O’Neill is a singer-songwriter who was born in Los Angeles but grew up in Sweden with her mother and grandmother, who both came from Poland. She is now based in Chicago. Newcomer Blues tells her migration story.
This is her third album and features eleven original songs.
O’Neill co-produced it with Rich Lackowski who also plays drums and sings harmony vocals. It was recorded mostly live in the studio with her 5-piece band at Kingsize Sound Labs in Chicago.
Her main musical loves and inspirations come from soul, R & B, and gospel. She names Pops Staples, Prince, and Teenie Hodges as guitar heroes.

Due to its flat production none of the songs convey much in the way of emotion or dynamics.Live Like You’ve Just Begun is billed as a breakup song but contains no sense of heartache or regret.
It’s the kind of anonymous record that sounds like it was made with session musicians.
