This 10" single is Little Richards Record store day release this year, featuring six songs he recorded for Brunswick Records in 1968 and for this listener it's a revelation to hear him singing Northern Soul rather than Rock & Roll.
The A-side opens with Try Some Of Mine a big brassy production strutting song trying to convince anyone who isn't totally satisfied with the love they have at home, then they must try some of his love, oh he's getting down with the swinging sixties and wants to have a ball with you, this has girl group backing vocals on this Don Covay tune.
Can I Count On You is full on begging pleading for your love through the night soul music, perfect for sliding across the dancefloor to the object of your desire and letting it all hang out, go on give in and let him have his way with you, just lean back and let those trumpets sing, on this brilliant Wille Henderson and Carl Davis production.
Soul Train go on get on board with Little Richard and get down and dirty on this classic Willie Henderson and Carl Davis full on Northern Soul production, a super funky dance floor sensation.
Stingy Jenny is a gospel soul shouter for that tightfisted lady, who just won't give it away to you or anyone else,, no matter how much you beg and plead with her, she ain't giving a cent to no man. Love the boogie woogie piano on this.
Baby Don't You Tear My Clothes is a stone-cold Beatles rip off, Little Richard is in the throes of the sort of argument where his baby is threatening to rip his clothes off, rather than drive his car, the organ that drives this on is brilliant, on this alternate mix that shakes it's booty.
The 10" closes with She's Together that re-works I've Got A Woman to make clear that this Soul woman has got her stuff together, with the backing girl group and brass section firing her up, you want to see that fine woman on another classic Don Covay song.
