Over a 20-plus year career, Little Barrie, led by guitarist Barrie Cadogan and bassist Lewis Wharton, have specialised in a blend of blues, funk and old school rock n’ roll without troubling too much to follow new musical trends.
Here, as with 2020’s Quatermass Seven, they join forces with drummer Malcolm Catto, the founder-member of The Heliocentrics.
It’s all about the feel and getting the groove right. On several tracks, Spektator for one, there are strong hints that they’ve been getting a few ideas from Can.
The laid-back flow of the instrumental Creaky is a standout and this benefits from the cello accompaniment of The Heliocentrics’ Danny Keane.

There’s a tightness to the fluidity to a sound which is more understated than showy.
The efficiency is both a strength and weakness. The quality of the musicianship is never in doubt but the album is short on the thrills that might come from allowing some wildness into the mix.
