Review: 'Harold Nono'
'Faro'

-  Label: 'Bearsuit Records'
-  Genre: 'Ambient' -  Release Date: '18.4.25.'-  Catalogue No: 'BS067'

Our Rating:
Faro is the latest album by Minimalist auteur Harold Nono, this proud Caledonian composer has sought inspiration, on the Swedish island of Faro, obviously seeking to make it the latest outcrop of the Scottish empire. The mini album was written produced and recorded by Harold Nono and presented to Bearsuit records head honcho Dave Hilary to release.

The album opens with Raukar a slow piano led ambient piece, that feels like the waters gentle caressing the Raukar, but with dark cadences, like a rowboat is about to be washed against the Raukar, deep bass sonority, foreboding keyboards for a dune like wasteland.
Hour Of The Wolf has long tonal strings summoning the wolf to the very edges of the outcrop, ready to howl into the void, but instead is sitting staring, waiting for his prey to appear and come within his sphere, yelps from a distance, like being dragged over a gravel promontory, deeply intuiting Ingmar Bergman's Vargtimmen.

Broa Kiosken is for sitting looking out at that mesmerising view, while waiting for your Fika Och Kaffe to be served, soft sad strings make it feel like your looking into the distance, imagining what it would be like to try to land your boat in a storm between the barren outcrops, with echoes of Richard Pinhas legendary Iceland album.

Sketch For Faro sounds like the soundtrack to a wildlife documentary about the bird life of Faro, all that's missing is David Bellamy's narration of everything he sees, couched in the strings and somnambulant beauty as an egret flies overhead, cymbals crash, wave like against the rocks.
