Our Rating:
Initial copies of The Instant Garden the debut album by Dr Robert and Matt Deighton come with its own Instant Garden (or pack of seeds) to help you get the full vibe of what this pair of legends came up with together in The Ravens Studio in Anglesey where they sat down opposite each other and created an Instant Garden in just four weeks. Of Course Dr Robert is most famous for being the head Blow Monkey and Matt Deighton is best known for Mother Earth.

The album opens with Already There a pastoral of acoustic guitars, strings and wonderment at the effects of four to the floor and other distractions of life, they are certain that they have already reached the destination they were seeking.

Dude In A Roller could be another lost Peter Sarstedt song, a slightly envious slow folk song, for a Dude who made it and is gliding by them in his Phantom, while everyone chants along with the chorus, this is infectious folk pop.

Giving Up The Ghost let go of the ex that causes you all the pain and sorrow you feel deep inside, acoustic and electric guitars weave around each other, backing vocals are almost choral and the beauty of the song will draw you in, to allow you to start digging someone else's scene.

Gardening In The Mediterranean Way while ensconced in a studio in the far north of Wales, allowing all your thoughts, of what you would plant, on some sunny day.

Supernatural Seas takes them close to the sea sat on a wall watching all the wild actions of the sea crashing in, this feels relaxed no matter how turbulent the briny foam has become.

God Is Nature asks where do I belong, well somewhere between the incredible String Band and Nick Drake on this evidence, spectral picked guitar and an air of astral projection.

The Instant Garden is the most psychedelic tune on the album, this has an early T-Rex feel to the songs structure, they dive deep into the undergrowth.

Philosophy is late night thoughts expressed over gently plucked strings and finger bells creating a world full of natural beauty.
Ten Places Safe takes a deeply somnambulant visionary view of the ways to find a real place of safety in a dangerously out of control world, the electric adornments perfect for creating a dreamscape.

'Endless Circle' could refer to the guitar figure this is built around, as much as the circle of life death and renewal of a normal garden.

Superstitious Woman is trying to blow their minds, with all sorts of spells and chants, strummed Bolan boogie, irresistibly drawing them into her world.

The album close with Crying Like A Child that feels more like the kid has just fallen over, rather than throwing a paddy, because the guitar wasn't tuned properly for them before they started playing.
